The Short Bead Race is a counting game based on the Montessori short bead stairs. Simply print the board and the bead cards, then add two tokens of your choosing (we chose dinosaurs!).
Children take turns blindly selecting a bead card, counting the beads, and moving their token forward that number of spaces. The first player to reach the end wins the game.
This activity is a fantastic extension of the short bead stair and helps children reinforce their understanding of quantity before the introduction of numeric symbols. The bead cards are color-coded to match the short bead stair, allowing children to naturally and confidently associate each grouping with its corresponding quantity.
